Language barrier challenges grow for North Augusta and Aiken County
North Augusta Public Safety struggled to investigate a homicide when suspects and witnesses spoke little English, prompting a Richmond County deputy to translate. County agencies face rising non English speakers with 5 763 residents (4 3 percent) in Aiken County not speaking English at home, many not fluent. Spanish is the dominant second language with 3 438 speakers.
