History of Saratoga Springs and its Racing Heritage
Tucked in the Adirondacks 180 miles north of New York City Saratoga Springs grows from a 1767 Iroquois guided cure to a famed August festival and racecourse. Notables like Evander Berry Wall Diamond Jim Brady and John Philip Sousa defined a season of fashion, music, casino leisure, and culinary legends including Moon's Lake House and the potato chip. The racecourse opened in 1863 cementing Saratoga as a premier thoroughbred hub alongside later legends Man o War Upset Jim Dandy and Quick Pitch amid ongoing yearly reunions and enduring resort prestige.
