Aikenites Honored At Heart Clinic
Aiken County residents garnered top honors at the 10th Scientific Heart Clinic in Columbia. Dr. Grady McElmurray received a silver medal for six years of service to the Aiken County Heart unit, one of only two holders from the county. Bronze medallions went to James Vaughn, Dr. James Hawk, Les Sims, and Mrs. Fred Salley for diverse years of service. Aiken County earned the award for the best unit in South Carolina and the campaign prize. more certificates will be presented at the May meeting. The attendees included Dr. and Mrs. Grady McElmurray, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bookstaver, Mr. and Mrs. James Vaughn, Mrs. Fred Salley, Les Sims, Dr. and Mrs. James Hawk, and Dr. and Mrs. James DeLoach.

Clemson University will run four summer camps at its 300 acre recreation and environmental research lab near Aiken. Camp Hope serves mentally retarded children in three sessions. Camp Westgate aids reading disabled children. Camp Sertoma targets Anderson County youths. a Aiken County day camp runs in three two week sessions. Qualified staff supervise overnight trips water sports boating and sports. Camp Hope enrolls about 120 per session. Camp Westgate about 50.
