Aiken County Ambulance Contract With Para-Med Delayed Signing

After intensive debate the Aiken County Ambulance Commission postponed the signing of a Para-Med contract to run the county system. The plan envisions three 24 hour stations with 20 minute rural and 5 minute urban response and aims to cut deaths by about 22 annually. The first year cost is set at 176 253 dollars with modest year-to-year variations.

Weather Outlook Promises Warmer Temperatures Tomorrow

The U.S. Weather Bureau forecasts a clear cool night with tonight’s temps rising into the mid 70s to around 80 tomorrow. Lows near 40s, partly cloudy tomorrow with a 10 percent rain chance. Nixon signals second Vietnam troop pullback by July

President Nixon announced plans to withdraw 20 000 more U S troops from Vietnam by July 1 and to continue bombing North Vietnam until Hanoi halts its massive invasion of the South. He urged nationwide support for his program to exit South Vietnam without surrendering allies to Communist aggression. The plan would reduce U S forces to 49 000, under ten percent of the 549 000 authorized when he took office in January 1969.

U S Demands Invasion End in Vietnam Talks

At the resumed Vietnam peace talks in Paris, U S delegate William J Porter urged North Vietnam to end its invasion and begin withdrawing troops from South Vietnam. North Vietnamese delegate Xuan Thuy called the claim utterly absurd, saying the United States is conducting a war of aggression.

Brandt Survives No Confidence Vote In Bonn Parliament

In a dramatic Bundestag tally Willy Brandt defeated a no confidence bid by two votes 247 to 249% of 496 members. The victory clears the path for ratification next week of nonaggression treaties with Moscow and Warsaw and strengthens his East West tension easing policy. Opposition led by Rainer Barzel of the Christian Democrats failed to unseat the chancellor amid a tense parliamentary session.

North Viet Namese Renew Attack Near Demilitarized Zone

North Vietnamese forces renewed their assault below the DMZ as U S Navy ships clashed with patrol boats in the Tonkin Gulf. American fighters bombed targets inside North Vietnam and three patrol boats were sunk with a fourth heavily damaged after attacking the cruiser Oklahoma City and destroyers Richard B. Anderson and Gurke. No U S damage was reported.
