Special athletes compete in Midland Valley games in Aiken County

Hundreds of athletes from children to adults gather with teachers, parents, and volunteers for the Special Olympics at Midland Valley High School. The opening parade featured the Parade of Schools watched by about 250 people. Activities included races, long jumps, T-ball, rope jumps, and the Very Special Arts Festival hosted by the Aiken Woman's Club. Nicholas Keenan, 14, wheelchair user, participated in the parade and activities.

Sinkhole swallows dump truck in Gem Lakes

City of Aiken tests Gem Lakes roads when a loaded dump truck sank as a storm drain leaked under the roadway. Crews sized the hole at about five feet deep after the truck began to sink on one side. Interim City Manager LeDuc said Toole Engineering was hired to study the site for soil borings and road surface quality.
