SCE&G Power Rate Increases Approved
SCE&G customers face a monthly rise of 2.50 bringing the typical bill for 1 000 kilowatt hours to 80.47 as the PSC cites higher coal and natural gas costs. Carolina Power & Light raised 2.52 in March. Duke Power to be reviewed in May. The PSC also set May 22 to evaluate Chem Nuclear’s landfill costs and June 7 to hear surcharges on operator assisted calls.

DHEC backs moratorium on hog farm permits in South Carolina
Columbia reports the DHEC governing board unanimously supported Gov Hodges executive order to suspend new hog facility permits until the next meeting May 17. Legislators filed a joint resolution to extend the moratorium indefinitely and ban open hog waste lagoons. Rep Becky Meacham Richardson called it an environmental and economic issue for the state.
