State revenues fall short of expectations risking changes to a planned gradual phase out of the grocery sales tax. The 4 percent tax on food, effective since Jan 1, would rise to 5 percent after June 30 unless the legislature extends it and begins phasing out the tax. North Carolina developer Pendergrant LLC presented a 3.5 million 56 unit Glen Arbor complex at Laurens Street and Lincoln Avenue during a city work session seeking council endorsement for tax credits. Mayor Pro Tem Price opposed the project citing Cushman Arms as a poor-area example, while Ulrich distinguished Glen Arbor from Cushman Arms and downplayed comparisons to Trotter's Run.
