Law officers swept Riverside Inn near the Fifth Street bridge at 9 p m Friday in the largest drug raid in Aiken County history. Coordinated by Sheriff Paul D. Grant the operation involved 30 to 40 officers from the county Sheriff's Department Aiken Police Department SLED Fort Gordon CID and Augusta Police Department.
Two Republicans filed to run for board seats with Carroll H. Warner aiming at District 4 and Harold V. Graybear toward Seat 7. Graybear joins William D. Gingrey and Alan M. Tewkesbury in pursuit of the chairman’s post. Warner would be the first challenger to Democratic incumbent G C Garvin for District 4.
The forecast calls for cooler temperatures tonight and tomorrow with partly cloudy skies. Lows tonight near the upper 40s and tomorrow’s highs in the low 70s, with a 20 percent chance of rain. A cool spell continues Wednesday through Friday with a warming trend, highs 60s Wednesday, around 70 Thursday, and in the 70s Friday.

Secretary of State William P. Rogers, speaking at AP meeting, said President Nixon hopes to sign a strategic arms limitation treaty with the Soviet Union during his Moscow visit next month. Rogers added halting Soviet arms to North Vietnam will be discussed, though not expected to occur.
A 3 year old from Aiken, Ralph O. Parker, was struck and killed by a car on Dry Branch Road near his home around 4 30 p m. The driver was Jerry Withers of Aiken.
Augusta PD jailed an indeterminate number of suspects after a Friday night raid on the Georgia side of the Fifth Street bridge. Charges include disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, resisting arrest, weapon possession, hashish, and other unidentified drugs. Names listed include Mary Regina Lollar and Virginia Elizabeth Fennell.
