Lower Savannah Pre-Release Center to Close in June

The South Carolina Department of Corrections plans to shut the Level 1A facility on Wire Road in early June, prompting shock from Aiken County officials. Inmates will be relocated to Trenton Correctional Institution and other state sites to continue work release programs, with staff reassigned to maintain safety. The county budgets about $75,000 yearly to fund inmate work crews for county services.

Satterwhite family seeks justice after 2014 Craven case

In North Augusta at Carey Hill Baptist Church, Rene Satterwhite urged justice following former officer Justin Craven's 2014 shooting of Ernest Satterwhite Sr. The event, hosted by Carey Hill partners and the South Carolina National Action Network, called for Judge Addy and Solicitor Myers to resign as activists press for accountability. The case involved a 13 minute chase ending at Satterwhite’s Edgefield County driveway and Craven’s plea to official misconduct.
