Former state chief justice Bruce Littlejohn dies at 93

Bruce Littlejohn, longtime South Carolina jurist and former speaker of the House, died at 93 from complications after heart valve surgery. He led the state Supreme Court as chief justice from 1984 to 1985 and earlier served in the House and as a Circuit Court judge. He pursued a 2000 suit for seniors over 85 that yielded a $7.5 million settlement and refunds to about 56,000 residents. His son Cameron said he remained home as his strength waned after surgery. His career spanned the 1930s to the 1980s with public service in wartime and law.
