Federal investigators arrested Sherman M. Jenkins 25 of Aiken on a federal conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine warrant. He faced an Aiken County child support warrant and an Aiken Public Safety warrant for resisting arrest. Jenkins tried to jump into the pond but was quickly detained around 4 p.m. as part of a joint Aiken Public Safety and FBI operation connected to a drug distribution case dating to July 14, 2005. The arrest followed a longer manhunt tied to Pierce Harrison and Wayne Carroll named in the same federal indictment.
The City of Aiken will deploy 50 new banners alongside 32 existing ones redesigned after six years. Volunteers from Osbon's Laundry and Fox Shoe Repair cleaned and repaired the worn flags, with artist Lynda Hunley updating the typography to a legible lighter blue on royal fabric. Mayor Fred Cavanaugh praised the donated services and hinted at a store-banner gift in appreciation.
Kimberly Anne England 44 of Martinez pleaded guilty to embezzling over 90 000 from public funds, funding trips and new vehicles. She was sentenced to two years in prison with five years probation and fined 1 000, plus 13 900 restitution. Her family has repaid about 80 000.
Donna Dante and her sister Linda Olson will be recognized in USA Weekend Magazine on Make a Difference Day for raising funds for Relay for Life. The two sisters walk in memory of their mother Siglinde Dante, who died in 2004 after a five year battle with cancer, keeping her memory alive through charitable effort.
