Video shows Pennsylvania motorist death similar to South Carolina shooting
Two months before the South Carolina case, a Pennsylvania officer shot David Kassick as he lay face down. The Hummlestown officer Lisa Mearkle is charged with criminal homicide. The stun gun video has not been released. A preliminary hearing is set to decide if evidence warrants a trial. Dauphin County DA Ed Marsico commented.

Mearkle case faces video release hearing Tuesday
A hearing on a defense motion to prevent releasing video of the Kassick shooting is set for Tuesday. Mearkle’s lawyer claims self defense, saying Kassick reached toward his waist while commands to show his hands were given. She fired fearing a jacket gun, though Kassick was unarmed after fleeing a traffic stop. The incident, recorded by Mearkle’s stun gun, parallels other cases like Walter Scott but is contested by prosecutors and defense. Mearkle, 36, a 15 year officer, is free on bail with electronic monitoring, suspended without pay.

Dozens gathered for orientation in Columbia as volunteers ensure medical readiness and assistance for aging veterans including wheelchair users.
