Older Social Security debts paused amid review
The Social Security Administration will suspend withholding tax refunds to recover decade old overpayments. Acting Commissioner Carolyn Colvin said about 400,000 people owe $714 million, with $55 million already collected mainly via Treasury seizures. Concerns grew as some debts were tied to parents or guardians when recipients were children.
