Supreme Court Refuses Koon Appeal in 1981 Slaying
Warrenville man Paul F. Koon remains on Death Row as the Supreme Court declines to hear his appeal. Appeals revert to lower federal courts, a process expected to take four to seven years, per Aiken County Solicitor Bob Harte. Prosecutors say Koon kidnapped Valerie Newsome from an Augusta mall parking lot. her body was found 39 days later in an Aiken County shallow grave. Rabid raccoon kills dogs in Aiken County scare
