List of victims grows for suspected killer

DETROIT police say the list of victims tied to former sailor John Eric Armstrong keeps expanding as bodies surface in the United States and Asia. Armstrong, 26, from Dearborn Heights, faced five murder and three attempted murder charges in Detroit area prostitution cases and is linked to at least 11 other slayings since 1992 in Seattle, Hawaii, Hong Kong, North Carolina, Virginia, Thailand, Singapore, and possibly Japan Korea and Israel. He served eight years aboard the USS Nimitz. The probe began after three strangled prostitutes were found in a Detroit railroad yard. Authorities say he targeted prostitutes and may have killed or attempted to kill many more. He cooperates with investigators and has no attorney present during questioning.

County weighs river project and liability factors

Local officials discuss a long term plan to lower river water as a demonstration to test feasibility of repairing and preserving the lock and dam. Liabilities and insurance are cited but proponents say benefits outweigh risks if done properly and with sponsorship. It could take about three years after funding to complete repairs before relinquishment.
