Charleston report says the Old Slave Mart Museum may close if financial support dries up. Owners Judith Wragg Chase and Louise Alston Graves have run the museum and its research library for 25 years, plan retirement, and seek a full time professional director as board duties fade.
In Houston at the Astrodome during a Astros Giants game a fan ignored a city ordinance banning smoking at indoor events. John Cirka section supervisor confronted the man who claimed not to smoke then a cigarette ignited under the fan’s shirt. The fire was put out with no injuries.

State forester reports a calm scene with clouds and rising humidity. forecasters predict showers statewide, aiding suppression as 65 fires damaged 450 acres on Friday including 200 near Hollywood. Calhoun and Charleston County fires added 125 and 125 acres, with March totals 1,868 fires across 11,991 acres and 664 fires for the first 11 days of April.
