Car owners urged to trade in cars every two years
Federal Highway Administration economists say owning a new car every two years is financially comparable to keeping an old one. Keeping a car two years longer saves little money, and the decision should hinge on owner taste. The cost per mile of keeping a car for 10 years rose from 10.21 to 11.89 cents.

Kirk Ends Rule of Manatee Schools in Settlement
Gov. Claude Kirk ends his seven day control of Manatee County schools after the Justice Department agrees to help seek modification of the desegregation plan. The move clears the path for court ordered racial balancing of 17 000 students and potential reinstatement of the school board. Kirk says the solution lies with constitutional courts and that Florida and the DOJ are aligned on obedience to the courts. He plans to reinstate the superintendent and board to prepare for Krentzman order implementation.
