Funeral for Walter Scott Sees Minister Decry Racism
In Summerville a large crowd attends Walter Scott’s funeral where Rev. George Hamilton calls the shooting by a white officer racist and insists race may have motivated the killing. Scott, a Coast Guard veteran and father of four, was killed during a confrontation as officer Michael Slager, charged with murder, fired eight times as Scott ran. Police had said a Tasering preceded the stop, while dashcam video shows the shooting. Policers note Scott owed over 18000 in child support and fees at the time.
