Hodges stalls on shipping plutonium to South Carolina

Magistrate appointment row may reach Senate action

Senator Tommy Moore plans to ask the full Senate to resolve a deadlock over a magisterial appointment. The dispute pits Moore for Danny Lynn of North Augusta against Senator Greg Ryberg for Pat Sullivan of Jackson, with Lynn a retired highway patrol officer and Sullivan serving as Jackson mayor. Tobacco tax plan moves to finance committee

A proposal to lift cigarette taxes from 7 to 29 cents per pack to fund Medicaid shortfalls goes to the Senate Finance Committee. The plan would raise about $83 million for Medicaid programs via federal matching funds, as the Department of Health and Human Services sought more funding to restore nursing cuts.
