Tiger Woods wins the Masters with a 272 total in the 16 under tier, beating David Duval by two and Phil Mickelson by three. Augusta National’s Hootie Johnson criticizes longer hitters for turning the course into a pitch and putt, noting 285 extra yards added and two boxes shifted. Rain on Tuesday and Wednesday softened greens, boosting putting and shortening some holes, while Woods eyes a repeat as a Masters champion with tee times from 10:53 to 3:15.

First Steps seeks Senate support to restore funding

First Steps Director Marie-Louise Ramsdale urged a Senate budget subcommittee to protect the $38 million requested for the next fiscal year. House leaders contend the agency faces a 37.5 percent cut with the House budget, while Senate leaders weigh the committee's subpanel findings before acting. Ramsdale notes the program spans all 46 counties, funding preschool health screening and parent education. Land, a Senate Democrat, calls the budget tight and piecemeal restoration unlikely, citing personal connections to the program. Leath-Flo says he will wait for subcommittee reports before acting on funding.
