Challenged books dominate 2017 ALA list
The ALA’s 2017 list tops with Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why and Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian as the most objected to titles. Other contested works include Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give. The annual tally notes 356 challenges, amid debates on death, profanity, and LGBT content.
