Aiken City Council Approves First Reading of Water Sewer Rate Hikes
The Aiken City Council, in a 5-2 vote, approved the first reading of an ordinance to raise water rates by 2 percent and sewer rates by 11 percent. Critics Ed Woltz and Lessie Price voiced questions and called for more information and a possible supplementary meeting before second reading. The package would add 24 cents monthly for water and 3.13 dollars for sewer to the average 800 cubic foot user, with potential for five more years of similar increases.
