Andersen auditor plea deal could bolster government's case

Visa lottery slowdown hits Muslim countries in US residency

Security checks after September 11 slowed the annual State Department visa lottery. From Oct 1 2000 to Feb 28 2001, 16 308 winners were approved worldwide, dropping to 14 074 a year later largely due to Muslim country rejections. Officials say broader checks may raise future rejection rates for Egypt Jordan Sudan Saudi Arabia and other Muslim nations.
