Zone denial appealed to city council
A rezoning request by Country Home Builders on 27.57 acres west of Whiskey Road south of Stratford Hall goes before the Aiken City Council Monday. The proposal, opposed by Elmwood Park and Stratford Hall residents, faced a 6-1 denial by the planning commission on March 13 and mirrors another deficit fronting commercial property along Whiskey Road. The group cited traffic pressures. planning director Ed Evans warned Whiskey Road may reach 35 000 vehicles daily by 2002 and noted a 34 percent rise in accidents 1997 to 1999.
