North Augusta man arrested in deputy shooting pursuit

A manhunt ended with the arrest of Douglas Antonio Hammond, 27, of 512 Buena Vista Avenue, by Aiken County investigators. Hammond faces assault with intent to kill and firearm during crime charges after allegedly firing at a Richmond County deputy during a chase from Gordon Highway into North Augusta. He was located on Metz Drive near Martintown Road. The search began Saturday night following a deputy’s gunfire exchange during the pursuit.
