The Aiken City Council plans a pilot Yellow Bike Program modeled on Portland to offer free downtown bikes funded by 500 to 1,000 dollars. About 20 bikes will be deployed at various downtown sites for adult use initially, with repairs and liability concerns to be resolved.
Aiken City Council approved a business license ordinance to lure manufacturing plants and corporate headquarters. Eligible manufacturers could face a 1500 dollar annual cap. HQ incentives require five other locations in SC or elsewhere. The council also designated the Legare Morgan House for the Historic Register and funded 40 thousand dollars of landscaping for the I 20 US 1 interchange with Augusta Regional Transit.
The city denied the annexation request affecting Gem Lakes Hidden Haven Indian Creek and nearby neighborhoods. Moody favored a local buyer if annexed but would sell to an out of town buyer otherwise. Without annexation Aiken County would regulate construction landscaping and signage triggering concerns from Councilwoman Karen Papouchado.
