Grand American Coon Hunt May Move From Orangeburg
Orangeburg fears over rising fairground costs may force the Grand American Coon Hunt to relocate. The two day event draws over 30 000 visitors yearly with economic impact up to 8 million dollars. Association president Bud Ducker cites a cost jump from 1620 to 4781 dollars in eight years, threatening future venues. Fair Association president Charles Shuler hopes for a return, noting the hunt as a yearly city highlight after prior vending fee disputes. The event has been staged in Orangeburg for three decades.
