Edgefield Man Dies In Wreck

County Nears Shared Radio System for Aiken Agencies
Aiken County Council votes to join a countywide law enforcement radio system with six of nine members backing the move. Motorola equipment bills about 339 thousand dollars with a LEAA grant covering roughly 266 thousand, leaving 73 thousand to be funded locally. The system will link county agencies and with the state patrol and neighboring counties, operating in UHF and phasing out many home scanners. Local share is about 37.65 thousand, potentially funded by Jail renovation funds, with Public Safety departments of Aiken and North Augusta covering 22 and 23 percent, and several towns also contributing.
