County weighs options for Sheriff’s Office relocation plan

County administrator Clay Killian said creative savings have bought years but a new jail is needed soon. Options include bandaging current building, renovating a former Food Lion on Beaufort Street for a temporary sheriff’s facility, or a longer term semi permanent setup. A space needs analysis by Karen Chinn aims to guide whether to extend the Hamp ton Avenue building, use Food Lion, or build anew on Wire Road near the detention center. The project seeks Capital Project Sales Tax funding, potentially on the 2018 ballot.
