Though Savannah River Nuclear Solutions was directed by the Department of Energy to prepare a restructuring plan to minimize activity and staffing at the Savannah River Site’s H-Canyon and HB line,
DOE said Wednesday that the necessary restructuring can be done under the current plant to lay off 1,400 employees without affecting any additional employees.
SRNS received a letter on Feb. 8 advising the contractor to plan to put the Site’s nuclear separations facility, which employs about 750
people, into minimum activity status by Dec. 31, and a restructuring plan was due

Only three times in Masters history has a champion defended his title the next year. Jack Ntcklaus became the first back-to-back winner in 1965 and 1966, and it took until 1989 and 1990 for Nick Faldo to match Nicklaus' feat. The latest back-to-back wins came in 2001 and 2002 when Tiger Woods accomplished the task. Last year s champion, threetime winner Phil Mtckelson, is considered by many as the favorite this year and will try to join the club of repeat winners.Honorary starters

AUGUSTA — When it comes to local favorites, this year’s Masters is void of some of the usual stars. Augusta’s * Charles Howell HI, who finished tied for 13th in 2004. hasn’t played in the tournament since missing the cut in 2008, and fellow Augustan Vaughn Taylor also came up short of the qualifications for an invite this year after finishing loth in 2007.
The only Aikenue with a current PGA Tour card, rookie Kevin Risner, has won $34,571 on tour this year, but he’ll have to wait at least another year before strolling the Augusta National grounds.
