By ANNA DOLIANITIS Staff writer Though Savannah River Nuclear Solutions was directed by the Department of Energy to prepare a restructuring plan to minimize activity and staffing at the Savannah River Site’s H-Canyon and HB line, DOE said Wednesday that the necessary restructuring can be done under the current plant to lay off 1,400 employees without affecting any additional employees. SRNS received a letter on Feb. 8 advising the contractor to plan to put the Site’s nuclear separations facility, which employs about 750 people, into minimum activity status by Dec. 31, and a restructuring plan was due Jim Giusti, • DOE spokesperson '• to IXJE late last week. However, DOE spokesperson Jim Giusti said Wednesday, any shifts in staffing related to the modified operations of H-Canyon could be handled under the 1,400-employee layoffs that began late last year and have reduced SRNS’ workforce by 670 employees thus far. Same suspect sought in four area robberies By KAREN DAILY Staff writer Local law enforcement officials said they are working together to investigate a senes of holdups they believe have been committed by the same suspect at four area restaurants. The first of the holdups was reported Tuesday, March 22, when a lone gunman entered an Edgefield Road Wattle House in North Augusta and fired a single round into the air during the 3 am. aimed robbery . A suspect entered the Clearwater restaurant around 9:45 p.m. and fired a single shot into the air. He demanded and received money.
