Columbia AP reports Christopher Caldwell was sentenced to 50 years without parole after pleading guilty to murdering his mother Donna Phillips in their Pontiac home in April 2006. Caldwell told the judge he does not understand his motive and has felt suicidal at times. His brother urged life imprisonment.
