Second death sentence for Paul Koon upheld by SC Supreme Court

The South Carolina Supreme Court upheld a second death sentence for Paul Koon in the kidnapping murder of Valerie White Newsome of Martinez. The court found no reversible error after reviewing the case and rejected claims that testimony from jail officials about good behavior should have been allowed. The ruling comes after a 1983 retrial also resulted in a death sentence.

Two Killers Electrocuted In Separate Executions

Florida executed 30 year old Arthur F Goode III for a 1976 sex slaying of a 9 year old boy and Louisiana put to death Elmo Sonnier 35 for the murders of two teenage girls at a lover s lane. Goode died at 7 08 am after a 90 second 2000 volt jolt. Sonnier died six hours earlier as his family watched. The Louisiana governor and courts rejected last minute clemency bids. In South Carolina the state Supreme Court upheld bingo prize limits and a three year residency requirement for operators.
