More than 900 athletes from Aiken Edgefield and Saluda counties are set to compete at Midland Valley High School on April 19 at 9 30 a m. Volunteers are sought for general assignments including cooking and lunch setup with high school students acting as buddies and helpers. Paul Boyce is among the adult athletes and Bill Boyce leads the volunteer effort.

An Augusta man, Kentrell Antonio Brown, 21, was shot twice while walking to a gas station on Hampton Avenue and later jailed on multiple warrants. He declined to cooperate with officers, was treated for injuries at a hospital, and taken to the Aiken County detention center after release.
President Barack Obama will return 5 percent of his $400000 annual salary, about $20000, to the Treasury to show solidarity with federal workers facing government-wide budget cuts. The move comes as furloughs threaten hundreds of thousands of workers and as the White House warns of economic harm from the $85 billion in cuts.
U S Senate Lindsey Graham told Aiken business owners he will donate 20 percent of his salary to charity to reflect sequestration pain on 2,500 Savannah River Site workers and other federal staff. He plans 10 percent to Wounded Warriors and 10 to the American Cancer Society while promoting a rebudget of 80 million dollars to fix DOE site operations.
