In Saigon President Nguyen Van Thieu accepted cabinet resignations as pressures rise for his removal. He said the government is ready to return to negotiations but must retake lands captured by the Communists, about three quarters of the country, and ruled out a coalition with the Viet Cong.
Cambodian authorities scrambled 1,000 irregular troops to rice fields six miles northwest of central Phnom Penh to halt a Khmer Rouge push toward the citys northern edge. The government abandoned Kompong Seila 75 miles southwest and evacuated thousands including families by helicopter and C123 aircraft.
U S intelligence says the Hanoi command is sending over 1000 fresh troops daily into South Vietnam in a likely push for a final blow. Officials remain pessimistic about South Vietnam’s prospects, while Phnom Penh braces for Khmer Rouge pressure. President Ford rejected predictions of a fall, calling himself an optimist despite grim events.

President Ford warned of higher joblessness before improvement.

A bipartisan group including county delegation members and mayors met to explore solutions after two administrators left in under three years. County administrator Thomas F Williams resigned Tuesday amid disputes with four Democratic commissioners over hiring and firing authority. Ronald A LaCouture was dismissed last April by the all Republican board.
A special Ai ken County Board of Commissioners meeting is set for Friday April 11 at 7 p.m. in USC Aiken Room 206 to authorize a co signer for payroll checks after County Administrator Thomas F Williams resigned. Chairman Harold V Gray Beal calls the session at the request of several members.
