In Greenville AP: Mary Elizabeth Simpson Hanahan daughter of William Henry Belk Simpson cited for criminal contempt for lying in a news release about her challenge to her father’s will. Circuit Judge Henry Floyd set a Wednesday hearing and denied a jury trial. He warned of up to six months in prison and a $1500 fine.
Two 21 year old men Thomas W. Sweet and Jamie B. Brown died Friday night when their car struck a tree on secondary road 132 about two miles south of Aynor in Horry County. The state Highway Patrol reported the 10 p.m. wreck.
A 45 year old Spartanburg man, David Bell, received a 12 year federal term for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin and a money laundering count. Bell and three others pled guilty in February to a nationwide drug ring operating from 1982 to 1983.
