Chautauqua Week Showcases Music Drama and Lectures

A two night Metropo litan program features Shakespeare and Life by Lester M Stearns and The Chimes of Brittany with lighting and scenic effects. A grand light opera concert follows plus a children’s gala by Al Baker. The Patsy Broadway comedy, Gasford Concert Company, and Uncle Sam’s Samoan Island era lecture entertain. Hawaii themes appear in Vierra’s Hawaiians and An Evening in Hawaii. Ralph Gordon and John Mangels close the schedule with children’s acts across mornings.

Kiwanis Club To Stage Minstrel Show Next Thursday

The Kiwanis Club plans an amateur minstrel at the Aiken Theatre on Thursday night April 7 with Augusta tenor Charles Ballentine as a featured act. A blackfaced court scene is marked as a highlight. Reserved seats go on sale at Hall's Pharmacy next Wednesday with prices 75 cents and one dollar.

Civic League Postponed For Flower Show Conflict

The Civic League monthly meeting is postponed from today to next Friday due to the Spring Flower Show at Rose Hill this afternoon.

Real estate deals mark brisk sale weekend in city

Last Saturday sights a string of property transfers with buyers from New York and Washington. Mrs. John Ballantine Pitney purchases the Colleton Avenue residence, to be wintered there after alterations. Mrs. James F. Curtis acquires the John Given home on Hayne Avenue for 20000 dollars and will live there next year. Dr. B C McLean sells his Lancaster street home to George C Bourne of New York for 42000 dollars, with remodelling to begin then. Dr. G McMurphey’s Colleton venue house sells to Fred H Post of West Ras, who plans to occupy in winter. Hamilton Fish of New York buys the Holley residence on Hayne Avenue for 6500 dollars to rebuild as a winter home. Other Holley lots sold to W B Turner, EL Alf en, and L Skelton at the Friday auction.

Kiwanians Visit Graniteville Mill Tour Highlights Club Visit

Aiken Kiwanis Club members and guests toured Graniteville Manufacturing Co. in Horsecreek Valley after a luncheon at Hickman Hall. Rev Leslie of Graniteville and Aiken Lutheran churches gave a short talk. The group toured the Hickman mill process from raw cotton to dyeing, receiving khaki cloth souvenirs.

1927 Horse Show Best in History at Hitchcock Woods

More than a thousand attended the Hitchcock woods Horse Show last Saturday with spectators including hotel guests from Augusta and other points. Judges from Canada and New York officiated as prizes were awarded across classes for lightweight polo ponies, middle and heavy weight polo ponies, lead rein ponies, light chidden ponies, and children's ponies, with numerous cups presented by local ladies.

Club Women to Meet Next Week in Columbia South Carolina

Graniteville pupils held a debate at Graniteville Public School last night on a proposed statewide ballot measure to fund permanent improvements to educational, charitable and penal institutions.
