Etherredge Center funding approved by Aiken Council
The Aiken City Council unanimously approved 135000 toward the Etherredge Center at USC Aiken, part of a 4.4 million project for a fine arts center with a 700 seat theater and art gallery. Chancellor Robert Alexander called it a onetime community asset, with an 11 member advisory board to ensure countywide participation. Funding also includes 270000 from the county, 1500000 from the state legislature, 1900000 from the Etherredge Estate, and 467000 in bonding capacity. A low bid of 4.3 million from Kleckly and McGee Inc. must be acted on by December 18.

Belvedere damage from high winds and rain in Aiken County
High winds and rain battered Belvedere in Aiken County Sunday afternoon. Winds around 35 mph ripped a gas station canopy and damaged several home roofs at about 4 30 p m. Mobile homes were buffeted and trees fell onto power lines along Huron Drive. No injuries reported.

Aiken Board Approves Experimental Teacher Incentive Pay
The Aiken County Board of Education voted by a one vote margin to adopt an experimental incentive pay program, allocating 50,000 from the contingency fund to boost pay for enterprising teachers at their Tuesday night meeting.
