A farmer notes the prolonged hot dry spell will likely yield one of the greasiest corn crops in the region and will also benefit potatoes. The heat is uncomfortable but helps corn finish early to avoid frost damage and boosts farm output.
School opened Monday with great interest and enthusiasm. Enrollment in the grades is 154 and at the High School 42. A half day session was held Monday and the year's work began Tuesday. Prospects are for a successful year.

Edward Miller 21, formerly with the Raccon creek dredge, was killed last Sunday in Illinois while on a steam shovel. He left a wife Lena Airhart and an eight month old son Robert. The family resided with Lena’s parents Chas Airhart in Pittsboro. Burial followed at Mt Zion after services by Rev Cornelius Airhart.
The tenth Ashwell family reunion gathered about seventy people at Orval Randel’s home two miles west of New Ross. A noon dinner followed by a brief meeting with Chas Zimmmerman presiding and Oakel Ashwell reading minutes. They plan next meeting at A F Whorley’s home two miles west of Advance and will retain their officers.

A Shannondale report says eighteen month old Lit We Perry Broglish, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph foglish, died after hanging by the neck on a front yard fence at his home. He was found dead near two o clock Saturday afternoon. His mother was in shock and neighbors searched for a physician, who could not help. Palmer Shannon discovered the child after the tragedy.

L C Bowman sold his interest in Bowman and Martin market and may take a traveling salesman job with Armor Meat Co. John Weldon with wife and son George and Mrs Kate Rosa began a trip to Michigan in Weldon’s car. They will spend two weeks with Wm Dean and family and Con Weldon and family.
Perry Mullin three years old son of James Mullin is hospitalized in Stamford after a bull dog bit him seriously. The animal’s spine and head were sent for examination. Mrs F A Hamilton’s Riverside premises were the scene as Agnes Mackey aided the boy before the dog was shot by a worker.
