Frost covered Indianapolis and parts of the state with light snow in the south while heavier in the northern section, according to reports.
Rev Forest A Reed, pastor of the United Brethren Church in Lebanon for two years, was unanimously reappointed for another year by the White River Conference after a weeklong Clay City session. His leadership boosted church membership by about one hundred, gained many new converts, and saw the church raise over 4500 dollars for various missions and programs.
The September term opens with court scheduled trials including Lillian Higgins against Telitha J. Kersey guardian, Carolyn Kendall against Hugh R. Morgan to annul marriage, Ruth Webb against Fred Webb for divorce, John F. Richardson against Joe C Cain sheriff and Boone a & Guaranty for quiet title and damages, James D. Smith trustee vs Thomas R. Snow for damages, Flora H. Cline against M. Cline for divorce allowance, and Minerva J. Dillon against Loren Dillon and Emma Sergeens with two days allotted.
Enrollment totals 253 with class breakdowns for grades 1 through 12 and high school subjects. Teachers listed include Mrs Sallie Fulwider for pairs 1-2, Forest Reed for 3-4, Mary Rohn for 5-6, junior high Mary Rice and Franklin Herr, and staffing in domestic science, geom, Latin, English, history, social science, math, and sociology under Principal C G Lawler.
Joseph M. Kelly a lifelong Lebanon resident died Tuesday at his home 321 East Noble Street after several months illness. A famed county fair balloonist since youth he made parachute jumps at 16 and tallied many ascents. Born March 6 1874 he never married and is survived by three sisters Mrs Elmer Roberts of Chicago Mrs Oliver Wilson and Mrs Charles Martin of Lebanon a brother John Kelly of Chicago and half brother William Parrigan near Columbus Indiana. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
Mrs Margaret Lindsay of Muncie will stay with Sherman Gordon’s family to run the house. Clarence Routh of Morgantown is expected to visit Mr and Mrs J W Roark. Clyde Melvin moved to the John Wells property last week. Fern Creed of Oblong will spend winter here and attend school. Mr and Mrs Marvin Caldwell and daughters visited Charles Forbes and family at Lebanon. Ernest Smith and family visited Indianapolis with Mr and Mrs Ora Sutton. R E Burroughs and family returned to Frankfort. Mrs Laura Wright of English Kentucky was reported very low. Advance folks saw The Covered Wagon at the Colonial theatre. many called it a fine picture. Fred Rimer and family visiting M P Rimer and J W Cornelius and wife. W D Leap and son Normal of Kewanna spent weekend with Ora McDaniel and family, who have been ill with flu but are slowly recovering. Several from here attend The Covered Wagon at Lebanon this week.
The Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis September 1 to 5 highlighted strong club work with 196 pigs 191 calves 18 lamb pens and large numbers in sewing canning baking corn potatoes apples and orchard entries. About 150 club youths and instructors mainly Purdue staff stayed in a club camp the first such state wide endeavor. Families and individuals from Crawfordsville to Lebanon attended and local residents visited as news of births visits and school plans continued in the community.
Nina and Nandis Stewart spent Friday to Sunday with Andy Stewart. Several dinner guests included Lowell Emmert, Mr and Mrs Mark Bowman and daughter Laura Pearl. Frank Bowman and family. Brewer Demaree will enter Pur due College Monday. Richard Caldwell plans to enter Blooming ton soon. Bible School at 10 with communion and a sermon titled A Clown or a King. Address targets young college students. Mrs. Alice Rohn plans wintering in Tell City with son Charlie. Loraine Cook worked at Van Horn in Thorn town last week. Go To College Night at 7:30 features union service on why to go to college and educational principles. All students urged to attend. End with Mr and Mrs Wm Ross. Mrs. Harry Reese visited sister Edna Lane at Crawfordsville last week. Margaret McMaine of Greens castle visiting Sam Caplinger. Otto Hardesty and family from Sneedwart City spent the weekend here. Dave spent a gathering with Wm Seudlins. Pont Oris Stewart, State Line worker, spent weekend at home. Mrs. James Bean is poorly. J W Ross of Yehanon in town Monday. Gary Kincaid is ill. Mrs Emma McClaine visiting Indianapolis. Forrest Bowman to teach in Long Creek Oregon. Eunice Ross to Knightstown for teaching this winter. Mr and Mrs Harry Reese Sunday at Finecastle. Beulah Leap of Kewanna to visit relatives.
