A long OCR readout lists numerous individuals and families with monetary amounts next to many names. The fragment reads like a community membership or fundraiser roster with varied sums from 25c to several dollars, including many married couples and addresses not provided.
A Saturday evening gathering at Tom McLaughlin’s home honored Claude McLaughlin home on leave from Battery A 325 Field Artillery Camp Taylor Kentucky. About seventy five friends and relatives attended and reports say everyone enjoyed a jolly evening with Sunday dinner guests listed from local families and Camp Taylor visitors.
Jas Bowman and wife Mrs Ruie Bowman Clarence Bowman and family and Miss Laura Hadley spent Sunday with Ivan Wall and wife in a quiet community gathering.
A soldier in Camp Shelby Mississippi writes of the long journey from Indianapolis to Memphis and Hattiesburg, the welcome crowds, and camp life. He notes the transfer to heavy field artillery, his first horsemanship lesson on a rough horse, and the general sense of homesickness balanced by duty. He mentions fellow soldiers Donald Sanford and Bert Nisley and urges correspondence from readers.
Albert Hendrix wed Olive M. Blasingame of Kirklin on November 15 in Danville. He had left town Monday to husk corn near Kirklin but returned Saturday with his wife. They plan to settle near Kirklin. Reverend J C Todd spoke to two large Dover crowds and will address the Dover Country Club on December 5 on Causes of the War.
Sunday after church Mrs. Lottie Bratton was surprised by a large group of friends for a dining event at the Bratton home. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Crim Rev Rector and Mrs Rector, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Sutton, and families of James Caplinger Roy Nielson Ora Beaver among others. Dining and music followed with lively social conversation.
Mrs Jia Mullendore and her daughter Katherine of rowns bu e and Robt Fulwider, wife and son, took dinner with Mrs Nancy Whitecotton and her daughter on Monday.
