W S Lasley, manager of Advance Furniture, attempted to reach a phone then a door, collapsed on a couch and cried for help. Help arrived after some time. A doctor attended, and he was later removed to his home, resting better as recovery is hoped. The store is run by Gentry and Teague of Jamestown.
In a fast paced Tuesday match, Advance loses 31 to 30 in overtime to the Prest-O-Lite team of Indianapolis. The game stayed close after a 16 to 18 halftime Advantage for Advance, tied 29 all at regulation end, then Prest-O-Lite’s won on a late field toss. The lineup featured W. Walker Lingerman K. Walker Sallee for Advance and Rohn Burrin McClaine Smith for Prest-O-Lite’s.
About thirty five members of the class of 1920 and the present senior class attended a four course dinner in the local school last Friday. Vernon Purdue served as toastmaster and speakers included former teachers Mrs Lila O Haver Shinn and Burge O Emmert and Principal Claude Lawler. Other reunion attendees listed include Léaton Day Arnold Hypes Thomas J Burrin Jr Jewell R Dean Oakley Smith Earl DeBard Ernest Wright Merrill Staton Lucille Yager Esther Burrin Russell White Genevieve Clifton Earl Reese Esther Morrison Marjorie Martin Ruth Stewart Mary K Bean James Burrin and Mona Beaver Fulwider.
In a tight community gym tilt last night the Independents edged the Thorntown A. A. by 38 to 36. Thorntown led at halftime and the game stayed close through the second half, highlighted by a strong late push from the Independents.
The friends of Miss Daisy Imbler formerly of Advance congratulate her on marriage to Ollie J. Kennedy of Lebanon. Rev. John M. Horne officiated in a small ceremony attended by a few guests. The couple will live at 513 East Pearl Street Lebanon in apartments with Mrs. Margaret Reed.
The King’s Daughters Class of East Christian church met at Mrs Carrie Beaver’s home last week and surprised her. Several members attended and presented a Bible dictionary and an aluminum dish pan. Mrs S Z Billingsly, substitute teacher, received an aluminum pan as well.
Rev Geeding, recently recovering from flu, suffered a heart attack Friday and was in critical condition for about thirty minutes. The incident occurred amid ongoing health concerns for the clergyman.
Daniel W. Otenburg aged 65 years 8 months 21 days died at 8 50 p m Tuesday at his home 1 5 miles south of Lebanon after a lengthened illness. Born in Scioto county Chigo he came to this county in 1880. He married Emma Heflin on Sept 25 1883 in Boone county. Surviving are two children Mrs Nora Ferguson near Advance and Oraften burg Jamestown. He belonged to the Christian church Providence Montgomery county. Funeral from the residence at 10 a m Thursday with interment in the I C O F cemetery Jamestown.
The class of 1923 held a Christmas party Saturday night at Rush Billingsly’s home with games contests and blue and white decorations. Refreshments included candy Eskimo pies wafers and cocoa. Advance plans to begin the new year Friday night.
Mr and Mrs Harry Reese plan a brief move to Florida seeking warm sun and no frost bite risk. The decision follows a spell of cooler conditions. They anticipate settling in once weather improves.
James Robbins of Lebanon and William Behrens of Monticello were sentenced to ten to twenty-five years after pleading guilty to robbing the Upland State Bank on December 23. Marion Smith of Springfield, Ill, was arrested in Indianapolis in connection with the crime. Robbins broke down in court as he testified his life on his family farm near Crawfordville.
