In the last home game, Advance and Thorntown Kic played a tight contest on Advance floor. Final minutes decided it as Advance led 38 to 36. Curtain bout saw Advance Juniors defeat Thorntown second team 16 to 6. Referees Goldsberry and Frank Ross.
Martinsville celebrated the opening of its new gym last Thursday as the high school faced Shelbyville in a close game. Shelbyville won 47 to 41 before a crowd exceeding 5 000, with locals proud to showcase the facility financed by voluntary subscriptions.
The Klan revival services closed Sunday night at the First Christian church in Lebanon. Two crowded houses and two strong services marked the finale. Evangelist Rev. Roberts and Mr. Klingler were praised for their work. At closing, Rev. A W Cash announced the Klan was always welcome and the church might be known as a Klan church.
Dr. H E Woodard of the Indiana Association of Optometrists has asked H A McDaniel of Lebanon to examine the eyes of workers at a large Indianapolis factory. McDaniel will start Monday March 8 and work in Indianapolis on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday each week until all exams are finished. He will hold office Thursday Friday and Saturday each week.
The Sectional net tournament starts next Friday and Saturday at Kalen. Jamestown is set for Saturday morning. Tickets are available through Prof. Lawler or J. Butrin ahead of the event. Schedule information appears on page five.
Church notes announce a Go to Church campaign starting Sunday with services at 10:00 including Bible school and communion. Topics cover Christianity in Action and various sermon series across denominations, plus a revival and delegate night at Crawfordsville. Sympathy extended to Mrs Frazier and family.
The Christian Church reports progress at Advance and Old Union despite bad weather and illness. A Go to Church campaign runs from next Sunday to Easter, inviting all not attending elsewhere. The Bereaved family thanks the church for care for Opal Smith, including nurse support and other helps.
Local notes show Jess Emmert family visiting James Gordon and planning a move to Thorntown. Various residents visited Lebanon, Shannondale, Whitestown, and Bowman. A baby boy named Robert born Feb 22 is announced, and March 8 features events titled The Path Across the Hill and Grandpa.
Miss Victoria Proffitt of Crawfordsville escaped unharmed when the Proffitt & Son hearse left the Lebanon road near Smartsburg and crashed down a 30 foot embankment at Walnut Fork bridge. Her brother Asher Proffitt and cousin Joe Frazier leapt free, a casket worth over $400 was demolished, and the wreck damaged the vehicle and a Ross wrecker which also struck a tree. The cause remained undetermined and no injuries were reported beyond property loss.
Community mourns the sudden death of Mrs J B Beaver age older citizen of Advance. Funeral services are set for Friday at 10:00 AM at North Christian Church with Rev Cornelius Airhart of Crawfordsville officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah cemetery. Obituary to be published next week.
Lee Shaw was assisted by Chas Bean and family and Will DeBard and family in hog butchering on Saturday. Ray Pointer and family visited Bert Ferguson and John Young and Chas McClaine’s family. Chas Thompson moved to Lebanon. Claude McLaughlin will move into the house. Oakel DeBard hosted guests including Albert Cox and Basil DeBard and families from near Pott's school house.
Citizens mourn the death of Opal Fay Smith aged 21 of Advance. She died at home after a brief illness leaving an infant daughter twelve days old. Survived by Basil H. Smith, Ruth Maurine Smith, her mother Laura Hedge, sister Lola Wright, and brother Donald Hedge. Funeral arrangements incomplete.
Thora Melson spent a weekend as a guest of Miss Elizabeth Swisher, joining social activities and spending time at the Swisher residence.
The funeral for a respected figure, loved by many relatives and friends, was held Thursday at 11 a.m. at East Christian church in Advance. Rev. O. V. Rector of Goshen officiated, with burial in Ol Union cemetery.
Samuel V. Frazier a prominent resident died Saturday at 8 80 at his home north west of Advance from pneumonia and complications. Born August 4 1849 in West Virginia he married Sophia Proffitt March 10 1874 and spent most of his life in Indiana. He leaves his wife son J S Frazier two grandchildren and a great grandchild plus five brothers. Funeral services were held Monday at his son's home with Ku Klux Klan and Christian church involvement and burial in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
