Thorntown Man Bitten by Florida Rat tle Snake

Thorntown resident M L Clouser reports his son T J Clouser survived a near fatal bite from a large Florida rattlesnake while working for Western Union near Gainesville. The snake struck iron spurs first and again below the knee, prompting immediate self treatment and medical aid. Clouser is said to be recovering with no lasting ill effects.

Marriage Unites Batz and Hull at Whitestown Hall Home

Whitestown December 10. The marriage of Carl William Batz son of Mr and Mrs William Batz of near Brownsburg and Myrtle Hull daughter of Mr and Mrs John R Hull of Whitestown occurred at two o clock Saturday afternoon at the Hall home. Immediate family only attended. Rev Orville Woody Whitestown Methodist church performed the ceremony. The couple will reside in Hendricks county on the groom s father s farm and begin housekeeping.

County Tournament to Be Held at Lebanon High Gym

The Beone County Tournament will take place at Lebanon high school gym on Saturday December 13 featuring seven teams Advance Jamestown Lebanon Perry Central Whitestown Thorntown and Zionsville. A floor drawing will occur before games with the first contest at 9 30. Season tickets priced at 75 cents are on sale locally.

Advance Team Defeats Bowers 41 to 25 on Home Floor

The Advance netters defeated the Bowers team 41 to 25 on Friday night. Bowers kept up early pace with speed and multiple attempts, but couldn't convert at the hoop. Advance led most of the game and secured the win on their home floor.

Fire and Theft Hit Local Farmer Car

Joseph S. Frazier, a prominent farmer and chicken fancier, faced a sequence of misfortunes as his Oak land sedan caught fire while he fed sheep, destroying most of the vehicle. After extinguishing the blaze, thieves later stole three wheels, tires, starter, battery and other parts from the wrecked car kept at his son Kenneth’s place. The $2,200 car, insured for $800, left Frazier with little remaining and much frustration, joking that a cartoonist owed him a comic strip titled Joe's Car.

The K. P. lodge held a Monday night oyster supper with a special program. The Advance lodge works with Lebanon and county Pythians to back Boone county’s Pythian Home project. Thorntown H S plans a Friday night clash with Mace, at seven, with Miss Wilkinson coaching the locals and Miss Emily Aldridge guiding the Mace squad. Last year Mace defeated THS in Thorntown by a large score, but this season Thorntown fields a more experienced lineup as they seek victory.

The Advance Independent basketball team barely defeated Thorntown last Wednesday night in a tight contest. Some papers credited Thorntown with a 37 to 38 win, but the Advance players insist the final score was 38 to 37 in their favor.
