Pasture Cuts Pork Production Costs in Hogs

County Agent M. E. Cromer reports hogs on good pasture use 15 to 30 percent less grain for the same live weight gain. Across 15 pasture trials the average grain per pound of gain was 3.54 versus 5.11 in 5 dry lot tests, a 30.7 percent saving. Red clover or alfalfa provide season long forage. if unavailable, plant rape, rape and oats, or soybeans. Those using nutritious forage to maximize daily gains will see the greatest summer profits and a 20 to 30 percent pork-cost reduction with pasture.

Church Drives to Raise Funds for Men and Missions

North Christian church in Boone County reports over the top on a emergency fund drive. A $600 goal grew to $568 pledged Sunday with more gifts since. The drive seeks $2,247,000 for the church and its auxiliaries, with Boone County aiming $5,000. Contributions listed include J. T. Jones $100 and several others from $5 to $50. A Lebanon banquet on April 25 in Central Christian Church will feature speeches.

All Day Church Meeting Welcomes New Minister Boyd

The M. E. church held a successful all day event Sunday to welcome Rev. and Mrs. Boyd. Members brought baskets of dinner and shared meals in the basement after the morning service. An impromptu program and testimony meeting followed, revealing a hopeful church awakening with support for the pastor and officials. Non-resident members and guests from New Ross and other churches attended and were well cared for.

The township chairman attended Jamestown AM EB church Sunday school, pleased to be a guest in the men's class led by Prof Lawler. Ora Bryant oversees as superintendent and Rev Ingalls leads a large adult class. A service flag with twelve stars adorned the room as Prof Rollo Brown of Wa bash College delivered an address on Why France Has Held Fast.
