Tecumseh brothers and two sisters die in Adrian crash

A weekend furlough gathering ended in tragedy when a Tecumseh family car left M-52 near Birdsall and crashed into a maple tree, killing two Hoekstra brothers and two Choate sisters. Nelson Hoekstra and Maurice Hoekstra died at the scene. Joyce and Marjean Choate died in the car. Fireman Hoekstra died later at Bixby hospital with critical injuries. Coroner ruled no inquest. driver believed to have fallen asleep. Funeral services planned in Tecumseh and Adrian with Army officers awaiting Fort Knox arrival.

Fortress Gunner From Adrian Area Reported Missing

Lenawee county confirms Technical Sergeant Louis Hamilton, 23, son of Mr and Mrs L Hamilton of Adrian Route 4, missing in action since September 16 in the European theater. An aerial engineer and gunner on a Flying Fortress based in England, Hamilton enlisted December 4, 1942, trained at Keesler Field and in Florida and the western states, and has been awarded the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster.

Lengthy Lenawee Fair pulling contests end amid wet track

The Lenawee Salt grounds hosted pulling contests with a wet track from a Friday shower.
