Scrap drive to harvest Lenawee farms for war effort

Lenawee County launches October 1 scrap metal collection to supply steel mills. Farmers requested to pile old iron, fill a coupon with estimates, and route via township supervisors to the county salvage committee. Road Commission trucks will haul to depots, with pay at $72 a ton or donations to the Patriotic League.

Bringman wins GOP nomination for county sheriff

Elmer M. Bringman, a ten year deputy sheriff, won the Republican nomination for Lenawee County sheriff with 1 933 votes to 1 763 for Roscoe W. Scott and 529 for Harry R. Rodgers. The Morenci precinct delivered a decisive margin as total county results showed Bringman ahead by 170 votes. turnout was just over five thousand, with Republicans predominating the primary.

Carol Ann Jensen, three week old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Jensen of 425 South Main Street, died last night around 10. She suffocated after turning her face into a soft pillow. Survived by parents and grandparents Leora Erickson of Montazuma, Indiana and Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman of South Haven, Michigan. Body taken to Mott Funeral Home and later moved to South Haven for grave services at Covert Cemetery.
