Thornton Attacked in Labor Parade Over Union Card

Thornton owner of a warehouse and van company was assaulted during a labor parade after driving his own team without a union card. Police escorted him, but a mob grew to over a thousand, broke the wagon’s harness, beat the horses, and severely beat Thornton as his team fled. His workers are union members and had no prior conflicts with the union.

Death of Prominent Episcopal Bishop Clark in Rhode Island

Right Rev Thomas Marek Clark bishop of Rhode Island and the senior presiding bishop of the Episcopal church in the United States died suddenly at his Middleton home. Born July 4 1812 in Newburyport Massachusetts he studied at Yale and Princeton and served in Grace Boston Trinity Hartford and St Andrews Philadelphia before becoming Rhode Island bishop in 1854 and the church's presiding bishop in 1899. He relinquished active duties in 1898 to Rev McVicar.
