Bolt of Lightning Ignites Clayton Area Barn Fire
Lightning struck an electric transformer near the Philip Kindinger farm barn three and a half miles north of Clayton, triggering a fire with an estimated ten thousand dollar loss. The Kindinger family was away at Wamplers lake. Marion Goodrock spotted the blaze and alerted Addison fire department. The barn, 30 tons of hay, a soybeans bin and two oats bins were lost, partially insured. Lightning also hit a nearby Goodlack barn four miles NW of Clayton, tearing shingles but causing no fire.

Three Men Fined for Drunk Driving Plea
Three men pleaded guilty to drunk driving before Justice John K. Lowe. Donald DeFay 35 of 205 Locust Street paid 60 dollars fine and 7.65 costs. Speedboat Upends Rowboat Off Devils Lake Injuring Fishermen
Ohio couple Mr and Mrs Robert Meyer of Toledo were jailed after their 16 foot inboard speedboat rammed a rowboat carrying fishermen Homer Price and Leland Snyder off Echo Cove Devils Lake at 1030 am Monday. Meyer faces operating a motor boat while drunk while Mrs Meyer is charged with drunkenness. The rowboat capsized and Price drifted unable to swim until help arrived. Fishermen reported the speedboat ran with throttle open and damaged tackle worth over 50 dollars. The Meyers and their dog were detained after attempts to depart and the ignition key was removed by rescuers.
