Bible Put Up by Duke of Manchester in Bankruptcy Case

London on October 29 during bankruptcy hearings it emerged the duke had to take a Bible valued at 75 to secure 200 cash. He said the bill was not immediately required and it was left behind. Creditors objected to paying, and the judge cut the bill by 40. Also notes a San Francisco report on Gray Grand Opera tickets selling 65,000 on opening day, with 10,000 more than last year. season begins November 11 with 20 performances.

Death of an assassin in final moments at Auburn

Leon F. Czolgosz faced the electric chair in Auburn on October 29 unrepentant and unconfessed. He endured a nervous attack but remained stoical as prison closed at 10 p m. He refused priests and religious rites, showing no kin or higher considerations as the tragedy concluded.

Unconscious Stranger Halted Murder Plot at Docks

Monroe police and Sheriff halted a planned killing after a well dressed stranger, accompanied by two locals, was found unconscious near the M C H R bridge. He carried considerable money and jewelry while his companions were detained awaiting his recovery and possible charges.

The funeral for Dr. B M Nix drew the largest crowd ever at Hudson with the remains laid to rest under Masonic honors. George Brandeau killed John Furtoy near Cross Village and fled, later surrendering in Petoskey. Furtoy allegedly with Ed Thompson came to Brandeau’s cabin to threaten him, with Furtoy killed in the altercation.

Washington Oct 29 The cross examination of Admiral Schley began yesterday before the court of inquiry and had covered only about a third of the ground when the court adjourned at 3 o'clock. After Schley finishes two more witnesses will be called in his behalf Admiral Banker and Captain Borden. Borden served in the marine corps aboard the Brooklyn. The judge advocate will then call his witnesses in rebuttal, of whom there are under.
