The Pioneer society of Broad Street M. E. church held its fifth annual meeting. A heavy wire stack in the Page Fence Works storage area toppled, crushing Will Bowen and Tom Bee and injuring Luther Mattix. Bowen and Bee died at the scene or shortly after, while Mattix suffered a broken leg. Several workers were present, with others uninjured, as crews attempted to free the trapped men amid the chaotic aftermath.

A high mass at St Joseph's German Catholic church celebrated by Rev Fr Koenig honored Mr and Mrs John George Witt of Holloway for their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Witt, born in Baden Germany in 1826, and Katarina Spielman, born 1824, settled near Holloway after emigrating in 1847. The couple, joined by four children and ten grandchildren, were joined by about 50 Adrian friends for a farm-side celebration after the ceremony.
The City Roller mill on Logan Street, idle for a year, is back in service under Detroit Milling with P. M. Clark of Sarnia as superintendent and George Albro as foreman. The plant will run about 16 workers, grind 2,700 bushels daily for 700 barrels of flour, and will feature improved lighting from a purchased dynamo.
The railroad bridge gang under F. Kimnger of Adrian finished the major project at Coldwater Thursday night and departed with their heavy equipment, leaving the new sewer works progressing well. All tracks are secured, and the job appears largely complete, drawing growing public interest with hundreds watching daily.
Ken Becker lies seriously ill at his Frank Street home while Byron Taylor and Ed Brown are at home suffering stomach trouble. Maurice Palmer was called home Friday due to a family sickness. W. B. Gilmore and wife of Mabel Minnesota and Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Van Doren of the city were visitors Wednesday.
On each Tuesday Thursday and Saturday in October the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern railway sells Pan American excursion tickets from Adrian at four dollars thirty five cents. The Young Men's Society of St. John's Lutheran church elected officers for the ensuing year Friday evening at the school hall. Edward H Moeller was elected president, Hermann Wiesinger vice president, Hugo Reisig secretary, and Herman Matthes treasurer.

Company lists 5,000 acre rubber plantation near Tehuantepen, 1,000,000+ trees nurseries, capital stock 100,000, officers include Harry W. Bennett and Squire Garnsey, directors Porfirio Diaz Jr. and others. Security backed by first lien and life policy with Travelers Insurance.
Sir Thomas Lipton faced disappointment after narrowly losing aboard the Erin to Colombia. He praised the winner as fair and honorable, admitted the sting of losing by a breath, and thanked guests who offered sympathy for his hard-fought effort and the affection shown by Americans.
